Inauguration of the Sri Lanka Software Testing Board (SLSTB)

The Inauguration Ceremony of the Sri Lanka Software Testing Board (SLSTB) was held on the 2nd of January 2010 at the Royal Colombo Golf Club with the participation of 24 IT organizations. The chief Guest was Mr Rex Black, Immediate Past President of ISTQB and Director of the American Testing Board. The SLSTB is a non-profit organization which is comprised of a group of experienced IT professionals, who have volunteered their time to nurture, promote and support the software testing profession in Sri Lanka.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rex Black emphasized the importance of a National board to the industry and how it could improve the quality and standards of QA professionals. He also briefed the audience of what the International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) together with SLSTB could do to attract outsourced software testing revenue to Sri Lanka. 


President of the SLSTB, Mr Andrew Soundranayagam explained the future road map of the organization and their goals to lift standards of the Software QA industry in Sri Lanka. He further stated that “SLSTB’s main objectives are to provide the Sri Lankan ICT market with a common understanding of testing through the use of ISTQB’s syllabi and certification process, and to build a gateway for the Sri Lankan testing professionals to associate with internationally recognized experts in the software testing domain.”

 

Thereafter, the official website of the Sri Lanka Software Testing Board http://www.sl-stb.org was launched by Dr Gihan Wickramanayake at this occasion. 

Mr Hussain Shabbir read out a message from Mr Sanjaya Karunasena, Head of Technology – ICT Agency of Sri Lanka where he stated that “the establishment of the Sri Lankan Software Testing Board is an important occurrence to the country and there are lots of things it can do to the development of software testing and quality assurance.”

Mr. Sisira Kumara explained to the gathering about SLSTB’s affiliation program and the benefits. The ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks, delivered by Ms. Gayathri Muralidaran.
