Navantis IT (Pvt) Ltd., a premium software services and consultancy company in Colombo, has been awarded the CMMI Level 3 (v 1.2) certification by the Software Engineering Institute at the Carnegie Mellon University. The certification was awarded in December 2009.

The Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is the highest internationally recognised certification model for improving, measuring, assessing and evaluating the quality of software development processes and practices.

Navantis IT is a fully owned subsidiary of Navantis Inc. Canada, a Toronto based leading software services provider. It primarily caters to enterprise and mid-market clients with advanced software solutions developed with cutting edge Microsoft technologies. The Sri Lankan operation, Navantis IT, is located in Rajagiriya, Colombo. It has been in operation since 2004 and employs over 80 IT professionals.

Two years back, Navantis IT launched its vision for process improvement  with the objective of achieving consistency in their engagements with its North American clientele.

This included rigorous improvements, revamping and implementation of new and existing processes over the last two years. By doing so, the company has been able to significantly reduce the day to day problems and rework all its engagements.

The CMMI implementation has placed the company on a firm footing, where all its employees now have the ability to improve their day to day work practices (continuous improvement).

"Achievement of the CMMI certification is a reward for Navantis IT, Sri Lanka for its consistence and continuing commitment towards process streamlining by all its departments. CMMI will further re-enforce our capability to consistently and predictably deliver  projects, products and services to our customers, providing highest value for their IT investments," said Kumarannehelage Anuradha, Manager Software Development of Navantis IT.

Navantis has been well known among its customers and industry partners for its high quality innovative products and services. With the CMMI certification, the company will be able to measure and demonstrate its quality against the industry standards.

The CMMI quality initiative was sponsored and partly funded by the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), under their ICBP Programme to raise competences in process improvement practices of Sri Lankan software development companies.

CEO of the Sri Lankan operations of Navantis, Indaka Raigama stated: "When working with large clients, we always look for quality, predictability and de-risking their IT investments, beyond mere cost savings. A Certification like CMMI certainly helps us to establish a higher degree of confidence with our clients. It was very encouraging to engage with the Quality Certification Programme initiated by the ICTA. I believe more and more organisations can benefit with such initiatives. The Sri Lankan IT Industry is attracting attention from the global market. Endorsements like CMMI will help showcasing our IT maturity as a nation."
