BCS enters Jaffna: To offer IT qualifications

25-Feb-2010

Freedom from being constrained due to terrorism and counter terrorism acts now gives all Sri Lankans, especially in the North and the East, the prospect of gaining variety of higher education qualifications.

Educationist point out that there is a necessity to inculcate the need for higher education in the minds of students in the Jaffna peninsula after being held back by three decades of war. With this in mind, the British Computer Society (BCS) has joined the Federation of Information Technology in Sri Lanka to help introduce their professional education qualifications which is equivalent to BSc (Hon.) degree in the UK.

Jaffna with a strong tradition for academic achievement has long been deprived of education and technical opportunities due to the 30 year long war. Now with education service providers like BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT moving into the district, Jaffna has hope of catching up with the rest of the island.

The courses offered by BCS will serve to better accommodate the Northern youth into the mainstream of society and equip them with necessary IT skills to help cope with the challenges of the modern globalized labour market.
