Prof. Gihan Wikramanayake takes over as Director of the UCSC

After serving the maximum of two three-year terms in office as Director of the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC), Dr. Ruvan Weerasinghe relinquished office on Saturday 22nd May 2010. He was first appointed to that position on the 23rd of May 2004 upon the retirement of its Founding Director Prof. V. K. Samaranayake. At the end of his first term, Dr. Weerasinghe was re-appointed to serve another term which ended last Saturday.

Prof. Gihan Wikramanayake who is a graduate from University of Colombo, was the Deputy Director of the UCSC during the first term of Dr. Weerasinghe and also for a part of the second before he went overseas on Sabbatical leave in Sweden and USA. Upon his return, Prof. Wikramanayake has continued as an active member of the UCSC's Faculty was appointed as the first Professor at UCSC after its founder director Prof. V.K. Samaranayake. Prof. Wikramanayake played the role of the Academic Coordinator of the flagship Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) degree programme and the first Computer Science Special degree Programme at University of Colombo. He also brings with him his many years of experience including in several computer societies and committees. He is the current Chairman of the BCS Sri Lanka Section.

UCSC whose roots come from the Department of Statistics and Computer Science celebrates 25 years of undergraduate and postgraduate training at University of Colombo this year.
