What sets SLIIT apart?

SLIIT is a highly reputed institute approved by the University Grants Commission for the award of Degrees and is a member of the renowned Association of Commonwealth Universities, an association of over 2,700 universities and institutes of higher education encompassing the entire Commonwealth.

 Academic Programmes

SLIIT offers students a choice of programmes and courses to cater to diverse needs and areas of specialisation. The Undergraduate programmes are offered by the Department of Information Technology, Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering and the Department of Business and Information Management, while the Postgraduate programmes are offered by the Postgraduate Studies & Research Division. Degree and Diploma programmes are also conducted at SLIIT in partnership with foreign universities.             

Staff at SLIIT

SLIIT staff are highly qualified and deeply committed towards student success. In addition to full time teaching, SLIIT also employs industry experts as visiting lecturers, and provides facilities for its staff to benefit through training programmes conducted by its affiliated foreign universities as well as opportunities for PhD scholarships.

Professional learning environment

The courses which are conducted at SLIIT are all supported by an advanced Learning Management System (LMS) that provides electronic access to all course resources from anywhere in the world, facilitating a means for students to access information anytime and anywhere they choose. To complement e-learning, all undergraduate students are provided with email facilities. Combined with classroom support, all students at SLIIT enjoy facilities to discuss academic and personal queries through online forums integrated to the system.

Student life

Students need not only academic progress but recreation as well. SLIIT provides ample opportunities for students to enjoy recreational activities and showcase their diverse talents through a number of extracurricular activities such as sports clubs and societies, the interactive society, and an Information Technology Student Community, to name a few. SLIIT also encourages students to regularly participate in IT related and other competitions both at national and regional level, which has brought in many rewards and trophies throughout the years.

SLIIT’s foreign affiliations
       
At SLIIT, students are provided with many pathways to complete their studies either in Sri Lanka or transfer to one of several prestigious foreign universities affiliated with SLIIT. The undergraduate programmes offered at SLIIT in the streams of Information Technology, Business Management and Electronic Engineering are designed to provide students with the opportunity to continue their studies at a number of universities in the UK, Australia, and U.S.A.

Scholarships

MHESTF / SLIIT Scholarships

The Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Trust Fund (MHESTF), in association with SLIIT, awards up to 25 full term scholarships to students enrolled for the weekday programmes, on the basis and performance at examinations and students’ needs for financial support. Eligibility requirements to receive this scholarship include a minimum Z score of 1.4 at the G.C.E A/L Examination, and proof of students’ financial needs.

IFS Scholarships

The Industrial and Financial Systems (IFS) Graduate Scholarship Program offers full tuition scholarships to complete the B.Sc. Degree in Information Technology or Computer systems & Networking from SLIIT / Curtin University of Technology, along with an internship at IFS. IFS will cover tuition expenses during the academic program (where students attend classes at SLIIT and also work as interns at IFS), and pay students a monthly allowance as well.

Exetel (Australia) Scholarships

The Exetel Scholarship Program offers two full tuition scholarships for students to complete the B.Sc. (Honours) Degree in Information Technology or Computer Systems and Networking. Internships are also offered at the Exetel office in Colombo.

Industry-sponsored Scholarships

SLIIT provides opportunities for leading IT and Software Development companies to offer scholarships to selected students to complete the B.Sc. Honours degree at SLIIT.

Masters programmes

SLIIT provides flexible Master of Science Degree programmes which are of two years’ duration and are offered in the following streams; Information Technology (IT), Information Management (IM) and Information Systems (IS). These programmes are structured in a manner beneficial to students who wish to pursue their studies further up to PhD level, where they will be armed with the necessary tools to conduct individual research and self-study required for PhD studies.

Facilities

SLIIT Malabe Campus

The SLIIT campus at Malabe is situated on a beautiful 25 acre site and offers the majority of the undergraduate and specialised training programmes with the latest facilities. Aesthetically designed modern buildings and a large auditorium comprise lecture theatres, laboratories, communication and library facilities and administrative services. SLIIT recently augmented its facilities by constructing a state of the art structure at Malabe to cater to an ever growing student body.

SLIIT Metropolitan Campus

The Colombo Metropolitan Campus of SLIIT is located at BoC Merchant Tower at Colombo 3. Facilities are available at this campus for students to follow both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes as well as Professional Development programmes.

The Metropolitan Campus also houses the CISCO Regional Networking Academy, the Microsoft IT Academy and the Pearson VUE Authorised Testing Centre for International Certification.

SLIIT Kandy Centre

Established in 2002, The SLIIT Kandy Centre contains all infrastructure facilities such as laboratories, library and lecture rooms and a host of other resources in keeping with the standards and programmes of SLIIT’s other campuses.

SLIIT Matara Centre

SLIIT’s Matara Centre was established in 2004 and is situated at the heart of the Matara town. The centre admits up to 100 students for the first year of the degree programme and possesses all the facilities for first year students to follow the identical course curriculum as at SLIIT’s other campuses.

Despite SLIIT’s relatively short span as an institution, today it proves to be one of the top contenders within the field of tertiary education, moulding graduates to the task of meeting the challenging demands of not only the IT industry, but also the spheres of Business Management and Electronic Engineering as well. SLIIT’s prestigious foreign affiliations, highly qualified staff, superior facilities and professional learning environment set the pace to produce top notch professionals who will fulfil industry demands and reach the highest echelons of success.
