Virtusan Madurika Welivita honored with Academic Excellence Award

Virtusan Madurika Welivita, an Associate Engineer Technology, received the Virtusa Academic Excellence Award for the best academic performance in the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Degree Program of the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC). This achievement is the first for a student who is also a Virtusan.

Speaking of her achievement Madurika said “I am truly privileged to receive this accolade, which is a result of my sheer determination and commitment, I feel even more honored as I am the very first Virtusan to obtain such an award”.  

The Virtusa Academic Excellence award is an annual award presented to students displaying exceptional academic performance across a number of leading universities in Sri Lanka.

Speaking about Madurika’s achievement Prasanna Obadage HR Director Virtusa Sri Lanka said “We believe in endorsing excellence in IT is fundamental in sustaining high standards in the industry while motivating and encouraging the future generations to achieve the best”.

The award is presented to the student with the highest GPA from those graduating from the Bachelor of Computer Science Degree Program and the Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology Degree Program. The selection is made by the Board of Examiners, the Senate of the University of Colombo.

Virtusa’s relationship with campus communities is guided by its Campus Reach initiative which offers continuous guidance, coaching and mentoring programs to undergraduates, which positively influences the future of IT in Sri Lanka.

Approximately 180 students graduated from both degree programs. Madurika, along with two other students, obtained First Class Honors.
