SLIIT welcomes 7th student intake for Master’s Degree programme

The Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) strives to meet industry demands by providing well structured Masters Degree programmes to produce exceptionally skilled IT specialists who will make a contribution towards the development of the relevant sectors in Sri Lanka. The institution recently welcomed its seventh student intake for the Master’s programmes, marking a significant step towards producing another batch of qualified IT specialists to the workforce in the country.

These flexible Master’s Degree programmes consist of four semesters amounting to 14 weeks each, and students can follow the 2 year course in the subject streams of Information Technology, Information Management, Information Systems and Enterprise Application Development. Those who successfully complete the first two semesters (one year) will be eligible to receive the Postgraduate Diploma. 
   
“Professionals and entrepreneurs are needed to take this industry to the next level”. Professor Lalith Gamage, President and CEO at SLIIT elaborates that “we want students to push their limits by exploring  new IT opportunities and get more involved in research so that it can be commercialised, thus generating exposure for their work”.
Chief Guest, Dr Sunil Navaratne, Secretary Ministry of Higher Education while congratulating the new batch, urged them to forge unchartered arena’s in IT. “You are our future IT entrepreneurs and we have the highest hopes for your achievements for Sri Lanka to realize its vision of becoming a knowledge hub”.

Guest of Honour for the event, hSenid Chairman Dinesh Saparamadu elaborated that with IT being the 5th largest sector in the country and Sri Lanka being ranked as the 16th destination for IT, there is a very bright future for the whole industry.

The Masters programmes are structured in a manner expedient to students who wish to continue their studies up to PhD level, where they will be provided with the requisite knowledge and tools necessary to further more individual and self-directed research required for PhD studies.

The occasion, hosted by SLIIT, was graced by many of the institution’s Board Members, many industry leaders and other distinguished dignitaries and guests. Professor S. Karunaratne, Chairman at SLIIT emphasises the need to provide courses and programmes targeting key areas within the field of Information Technology in Sri Lanka. “By opening more doors for students to further their studies in specific areas within this field, we aim to nurture a new generation of experts that will contribute towards the development of the industry as well as the country”.
