India expands HR talent pool for Colombo

India has taken a strong interest in taking the plunge into the Sri Lankan business sector with the latest venture being Gilbert Tweed, the human resources pool company.

A leading executive search practice in India, an international partner of Gilbert Tweed Associates Inc., New York, yesterday opened its Colombo office in a joint venture with Jobenvoy.com.

Sri Lanka is the first country in the region that Gilbert Tweed has moved into with their other offices being in India, US, France and Brazil.

Exploring the opportunities in Sri Lanka post war, Gilbert Tweed Managing Director Ravi Bhatia said the company expects to open up for the services, manufacturing and infrastructure industries initially.

ith these being identified as the key sector of growth in this country, the aim is to enter into a market that will be provided with a search practice that will study on what the job is for and sending up applications to clients after proper vetting.

He said this is being carried out through a structured system that is being adopted in identifying the prospective candidates for jobs at the higher management level.

With the high end professionals emanating from India they have a good base from which they can provide the required talent, Bhatia said adding that however, they would also take into account the talent within Sri Lanka as well.

Bhatia observed the opportunities available in the Sri Lankan market would let more Indian and US companies such as the Aditya Birla Group, Barista and some MNCs from the US to enter the market.

Signing the MoU with Jobenvoy.com, Gilbert Tweed Lanka will be entering the market using the marketing strategies of Jobenvoy and their services to establish their client base in the Middle East as well.

Bhatia noted they would provide backup, skills, and processes that have been adopted in India already.
