CNCI commences regular training programmes

2-Sep-2010

The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) recently restructured the HRD and Industrial Relations Division of the Chamber to supplement its scope in the national cause.

Commenting on the new development, chamber sources stated that while there was an incessant demand for training and development from industry and the service sectors CNCI had to go slow, being located within the high security areas.

The situation over the past months has returned to normal and it is happy it could resume capacity building and awareness programmes for the business community, which falls within the priority objectives of the chamber.

The September seminar series will cover a wide range of topics on labour laws and industrial relations and participants will have the opportunity to choose those relevant to their areas of activity. The seminars will be conducted in the centrally-located, spacious Auditorium at the CNCI at No. 20, 1st Floor, Galle Face Court, Colombo 3. Details of the Programmes could be obtained on telephone 2452181, 2331444, or 2339200 or at the office.

Human Resources Development (HRD) continues to be a vital component in addressing socio-economic development issues faced in many developing countries such as Sri Lanka.  Executed through career guidance, training and employment location, it has enormous potential to narrow these disparities and increase standards of living. In this context special emphasis is focused on the SMEs.

With the cessation of hostilities, the CNCI further recognises as a high priority the extension and further consolidation of training and development in the north and east, considering the IDPs and residents who have not had access to formal or informal education for some time. Consequently it is already in touch with some of the relevant regional institutions for necessary coordination or collaborative arrangements.

This initiative aims to augment the employment prospects of individuals and counterbalance the problem of unemployment and youth unrest. Further interaction with State sector establishments will build upon work already done by the chamber, by expanding its capacity to create important linkages between the public and private sector industry members (PPP).

Towards this end it has reinforced the HRD Division by enlisting a leading specialist in the HRD field, Nihal Rangala who heads the Division, supported by a qualified and experienced resource persons pool and support staff.

The HRD and IR Division will focus on four main areas, namely, capacity building, awareness creation, consultancy services and advocacy services.
