ASOCIO 2012: FITIS to host regional ICT summit, expo in Colombo

ASOCIO (Asian-Oceanside Computing Industry Organization) headquartered in Tokyo Japan will hold its 2012 annual ICT summit and conference in Colombo and the Federation for Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS), the organization representing Sri Lanka in ASOCIO, will be the host of the event, said ASOCIO Chairman Looi Kien Leong.

ASOCIO and FITIS made this announcement when the ASOCIO delegation met the Secretary to the President of Sri Lanka Lalith Weeratunga, and UN-ESCAP ICT Committee Chairman at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.

Twenty five member delegations from ASOCIO were in Colombo, as FITIS hosted the ASOCIO midyear plenary meeting and board meeting at Colombo Hilton Hotel from Junu 6 to 7. ASOCIO is a regional IT industry association expanding beyond SAARC and ASEAN regions encompassing Japan, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Chinese Thaipe, Bangladesh, Thailand, Singapore etc, established in 1984 with objectives of promoting, encouraging and fostering relationships and trade between its members, and developing the computing industry in the region.

FITIS believes it an honour to the ICT industry of Sri Lanka, to host the ASOCIO 2012 ICT summit in the current growing economic environment.

Last two years, the ICT industry in Sri Lanka has picked up dramatically and this year’s ASOCIO Plenary Meeting provided a good platform for all FITIS member companies to interact with world IT leaders for a healthy exchange of ideas as well as a networking place for business opportunities through activities at the meeting, said FITIS Chairman Govind Nangrani.

The ASOCIO delegates also got an opportunity to meet Scientific Affairs Senior Minister Prof Tissa Vitarana who was the chief guest at the business networking dinner held at Colombo Hilton and attended by regional and local ICT industry dignitaries.

During the visit to Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), the delegation was briefed with a high profile country presentation of Sri Lanka sharing a very comprehensive ICT road map established by the government.

FITIS Secretary Udaya De Silva said, “Playing a key role in the regional ICT industry development by forming a platform to synergize and harness the knowledge among the countries, ASOCIO plenary meeting in Colombo initiated an ideal platform to bring together the knowledge widely spread in the member countries of the region to strengthen the vision of the government of the President of Sri Lanka.

The upcoming ASOCIO 2012 ICT summit and expo, is a great opportunity for the Sri Lankan ICT industry to engage regional players to boost trade and investment opportunities and to get high visibility to the country.”
