The competition, known as the National Best Quality Software Awards is as a result of a joint partnership between the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka, a Government of Sri Lanka institution to promote ICT here and the British Computer Society of Sri Lanka (BCS).

The IFS recorded 28 percent growth in South Asia during the first six months of the year.

IFS is a Swedish public company (OMX STO: IFS) founded in 1983 that develops, supplies, and implements IFS Applications, a component-based extended ERP suite built on SOA technology. The company has 2,000 customers and is present in more than 50 countries including Sri Lanka. IFS Vice President (South Asia), Jayantha De Silva spoke to Mirror Business on a range of issues. Excerpts:

Q:Can you briefly elaborate on IFS Sri Lanka?

IFS Sri Lanka started in 1997, and is one of the first Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) in Sri Lanka. We started small and we are today a Rs. 1.5 billion foreign exchange generating company. 

Younger generation of professionals are accustomed to using new technology and software products immediately without needing training or even a manual to learn how to use them, a software professional said.

The new IFS Heavy Maintenance industry solution has been implemented within Saab, the global military defense and security company, to help maximizing the return on the SEK 900 million, Performance-based Logistics (PBL) contract awarded by the Swedish Armed Forces. The solution is designed to support all aspects of PBL contracts, within all areas of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) concept.

Singer rolled out the largest web based ERP ever deployed in the country and in South Asia. The ERP was developed by the IFS.

Singer which has one of the widest networks spanning over 360 branches is now working on a single system enabling all connected outlets to act as a single business unit.

In the volatile world we live in, measuring the impact of global events on a company’s bottom line could make all the difference to its success. With this in mind, IFS General Manager and Director of Consulting Services South Asia, Poorna Bandara, explained that the latest trend among global firms that the Business Solutions Company deals with is, to manage businesses by project.

Over one in three (35%) UK IT decision-makers cite greater flexibility as the top improvement they would make to their existing ERP systems, according to an independent report launched today by global enterprise applications company IFS. This is closely followed by higher standards of customer service, with 29% seeking improved relations.

Camfil Farr Power Systems (CFPS), a global leader in manufacturing of air inlet filtration and acoustic systems for turbomachinery and part of the Camfil Farr group, has selected IFS Applications for Project-based Manufacturing to streamline business processes globally. The contract includes software and consulting services and has a total value of Skr 11 millions.

In a press release by IFS AB the global enterprise applications company said that it now has a matured and a tried and tested enterprise end to end solution for F and B companies globally. With successive large projects namely First Milk UK, Pepsi China, Absolute Spirit Sweden, Heaven Hills Distilleries US etc, IFS Applications has increased its foot print in F and B from planning to production to distribution. In Sri Lanka, Renuka Agri Foods has been implemented with IFS Applications and the company currently is in the process of rolling out IFS Applications to other subsidiaries.

Saab has extended its corporate agreement with IFS to position the Saab Group for new business opportunities. In addition to the corporate contract signed in June 2009, Saab will implement IFS Eco-footprint Management and IFS Export License Management, the latter as part of the Saab-IFS partnership offering. Under the terms of the agreement, IFS will call off SKr 11 million in December 2010, of which SKr 8 million pertains to software licenses.

With the acquisition of 360 Scheduling, IFS strengthens its offering to customers in the service and maintenance sector with deeper functionality for scheduling and optimizing mobile workforces. IFS has a long experience of providing ERP solutions to industries focused on service and maintenance, and has large customers serving a wide variety of dispersed assets, for example telecom networks, petrol pumps, alarm systems, recycling machines, air traffic control systems and power distribution networks.

Sri Lanka's technological capability in providing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) worth over US$ 1 million in less than the usual timeframe at the Flinth Industrial Park (IFP) from IFS Sri Lanka was proved successful.

Responding to the need of the mid-market in South Asia and the Pacific region, IFS launched its “IFS reach” solution last week, aimed at providing SMEs a state-of-the-art Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution.

Sri Lanka needs to increase the quantity of IT/BPO professionals without compromising on quality for the industry to grow, a senior industry official said. It will enable Sri Lankan IT BPO industry to achieve the US $ two billion revenue in five years time, IFS South Asia Vice President Jayantha De Silva told Daily News business.
