ACCA is removing an option for CIMA members to obtain direct membership of ACCA with effect from January 1, 2012.

The annual general meeting of ACCA was held recently at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo.

Nisreen Rehmanjee who presently heads the tax function of the John Keells Group as Vice President and Tax Group Head was elected as the President for ACCA Sri Lanka last year, continues as President for the year 2011/2012 as well, with over 15 years experience in taxation, dealing with both national and international taxation and has served KPMG for over 10 years. She is also the recipient of the Chairman's award for outstanding performance with the John Keells Group held in 2008/2009.

ACCA has launched an innovative study path namely Foundations in Accountancy (FIA). The whole purpose of introducing this new suite of qualifications are to ensure compatibility of ACCA academic offerings in line with the ever changing accountancy and business environment. Since it was designed with both employers and students in mind, the qualifications were created after detailed consultation with employers, learning providers, members, students, other professional accountancy bodies and regulators.

Ten new Global Forums have been launched by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) to bring together expertise from all sectors around the world to tackle issues crucial to the finance profession and business. The Global Forums will help to develop ACCA’s work to influence the government, policy makers and businesses on key issues and contribute to ACCA’s Research and Insights projects and initiatives.

The demand for a professional accountancy qualification has remained high during tough economic times as the results from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) examinations in June reveal that 196,000 students sat papers, with more than 6,000 taking a major step towards membership of the global body for professional accountants.

The ACCA Learning Providers’ conference scheduled for July 20 and 21 at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo, will consist of top tutors from BPP and Kaplan with experience in teaching in the UK and in other key markets. They will conduct a series of workshops over a period of two days , that will cover panel discussions and debates with ACCA staff and learning providers, on overcoming challenges and exploring opportunities for achieving tuition excellence in the region.
